Faith: I believe Ani Ma’amin
These words were sung by Jews on their way to the gas chambers and by Jewish resistance fighters during WWII. They originate with Maimonides’ thirteen principles of Jewish faith, and came to me the morning after my friend’s father died. He was a Holocaust survivor who escaped a work camp, went back to rescue his father and was part of the resistance fighters. For those of us wanting to cultivate faith, may his story and so many others like his, inspire our personal faith. Just acknowledging the miracle of continued Jewish existence after the unfathomable atrocities of the Holocaust can flame the fire of faith.
