Good Seeds Chants
A number of years ago I had the privilege of taking a course called the Rosary of the Good Seeds with Atum O’Kane. Atum (atumokane.com) is a gifted teacher of spiritual wisdom across faith traditions and this, along with a PHD in Transpersonal Psychology, uniquely qualifies him to offer these profound teachings. Of the forty wisdom sayings there were a few that particularly called to my soul, and chants emerged for them. May they grace your soul and offer profound connection and healing.
“Forgive them they know not what they do.”
~Jesus Christ
I know it may seem strange for a rabbi to be chanting Jesus’s saying, though Jesus was a rabbi as well!
These 2 practices with the same melody are both connected to forgiveness. The first one uses a direct quote from Jesus; the 2nd one has words that came to me as an extension of the quote.
These practices have helped me to forgive so many people along the way as I realized people may have hurt me yet they didn’t have the consciousness around their behaviors, actions or words. If someone is unconscious about what they are doing, they need to be forgiven because they don’t even realize they are hurting someone. But sharing the hurt with them in a gentle, non-triggered way can help them to have more consciousness around their behaviors, so that it may change in the future. Forgiveness is about us, not them. It is about not wanting to carry around a heavy burden in our hearts.

“Make friends with the Mystery.”
~Frances Vaughan
Frances Vaughan held a PHD in Psychology and was a bridge between psychology & spirit.
For a person like myself who loves control, Mystery is a problem… whether it refers to God or the mysteries of life. The concept of Mystery and the unknown can create a lot of anxiety for me. Yet the concept of “making friends” with the Mystery of life completely turned it around, and even got me excited about the prospects of what might unfold, even if i couldn’t understand them or control them. May that same blessing be extended to you as needed.

“The most important practice is to not harden your heart.”
~Saint Benedict, an Italian saint from the Catholic church 480-547 CE
There are so many small and large ways in which our hearts can become closed. People say and do things that may hurt us and shut us down; even as a child we may have been the recipient of a mean look from a parent or teacher which could close our hearts. These experiences can be like tiny pieces of plaque floating around the vessels in our hearts slowly clogging and hardening us.
In order to live fully, be open to all experiences, and receive abundant love, we want to keep our hearts open and flowing, red and vibrant, juicy and healthy. When things land on our tender hearts, perhaps we might consider giving the hurt up to God. And, if we are able to extend forgiveness to those who hurt us, it can create a clearing of the heart vessel, so the hardening can soften or disappear. It’s like doing a daily angioplasty on our hearts.

“What God wants most is that you share your heart with him/her.”
~Reb Zalman, z”l founder of Jewish Renewal Movement
In order to share our heart with God it is necessary for us to speak the truth of what resides within it. In addition to the feelings of love, hope, joy and gratitude, there can be anger, resentment, hurt, betrayal, disappointment, despair. Opening our heart means asking God to help us heal, hold and transform what is within. If we don’t know how, we can begin with this words of this chant, kneel on the floor in supplication, and ask God to open our hearts for us.
