The Breath Is the Light
inspired by Numbers 8:2
I will lift up the lights and bring you back to Me. 2x
No matter how far away, how lost and unsure
No matter how far away and broken you feel
The breath is the light that will bring you back to Me 2x
Let’s all raise up the light and go forward hand in hand 2x
Our breath is the light that will bring us back to You 2x
Let’s all raise up the light, breathe together forward in our Oneness.
Let’s all raise up the light holding hands in our Oneness
Our breathe is the light that will bring us back to Our Oneness.2x
Let’s, light the light raise it up it, hand in hand
Let’s all raise up the light go forward towards our Oneness
Lets all raise up the light, step by step, back to You
The breath is the light that will bring each one of us to You. 2x
I will lift up the lights and bring you back to Me 2x
No matter how far away, how lost and unsure
No matter how far away and broken you feel
The breath is the light that will bring you back to Me 2x
(June, 2020)
In Parshat Beha’alokha Rabbi Yael Levy teaches the Torah is talking about “lifting up the light” and she translates Numbers 8:2 and 10:2 to be “raise up the light, sound the trumpet, and go forward.”
We were studying this part of the Torah during the Pandemic of 2020 and in the Spring when the Black Lives Matter protests were going on all throughout the country. The words Rabbi Levy uses, “I will lift up the light to remind you that no matter how far away you are, how lost and how unsure, how broken, I will help you return to presence. I will help you find your way.
The melody that came for these words has a march-like quality of moving forward. I imagined all of us holding hands marching forward to lift the light of consciousness towards freedom and racial equality. The breath is always critical but never as much as it was in June of 2020 when George Floyd was killed and spoke his last words were “I can’t breathe.”
Breathe is the life of God inside us and we all need to join together to lift the life and light of each and every human being.
