Remember I’m with You
Genesis 28:15
Literal Translation: Remember I am with you; I will guard you wherever you go.
Hinei Anochi emach; 2x
ush’marticha b’chol talech 3x
Hinei Anochi emach
Remember I’m with you… I’m within you. 2x
I will protect you wherever you go. 3x
Remember I’m with you.
Beginning with Parshat Lech Lecha in Genesis 15, God sends a powerful consistent message to each of the Patriarchs as they make their way in their lives. God keeps telling them and in turn telling us repeatedly, “I am with you.” God conveys to each patriarch that God is with them, with slightly different language as you can see below. God is with the patriarchs and in turn with us. It is repeated 3 times in Genesis, and the message is undeniable.
- To Abraham in Parshat Lech Lecha (Genesis 15:1): Do not be afraid, I am Your shield. (Protection: I Am Your-Shield/)
- To Isaac in Parshat Toldot (Genesis 26:24): Fear not for I am with you
- To Jacob in Parshat Vayetzei (Genesis 28:15): Remember I am with you, within you, I will protect you wherever you go.
Rabbi Yael Levy’s Monday Torah teachings during the Pandemic of 2020 helped to me to see this pattern and it is her teaching for this verse in Genesis 28:15 that inspired me to add the words, “I am within you.”
Life can be difficult and it can be helpful to remember we are not alone. Chant these words when you feel isolated, alone, or a little contracted and sad, and make a connection with the Mystery and Source of all life and be reminded this Powerful entity is with us!
